All of us MAFS fans know that the marriages are real, but how much of the rest of the experience is authentic? I came across a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) featuring MAFSfan, an Instagram account now famous for leaking spoilers and Married at First Sight production secrets. The person who runs this account has gained a following over the years after posting about the show so frequently. They have made friendships with cast members and often have access to information that wouldn’t be found by the general public. The mods on the Married at Fight Sight reddit thread reached out to MAFSfan and they agreed to answer questions from fans of the show. You can read the original thread here, and I’ve included some of the most interesting details below.
Redditor: Do you think the people that are recruited hurt the show?
MAFSFan: Not really, a lot of great MAFS cast members (that are still married) have been recruited! Sometimes I think if someone already knows about the show, they might be doing it for the wrong reasons.
Redditor: Who is your favorite couple from any season?
MAFSFan: My favorite couple still together is Ashley and Anthony! I think they seem real, genuine, and a lot of people can relate to them!
Redditor: Is there any couple or person that you think have received an unfair edit compared to what you have learned about them through friends/family/other sources?
MAFSFan: Yes, Heather from the Miami season. She was HATED by so many fans. Who knows, maybe I even was not a fan either when watching the show, not sure. I think because she bailed on the marriage so soon, production wasn’t eager to paint her in a good light because it probably caused them to really scramble and created a lot more work for them to fill all of the episodes. But, after various info that came out later about Derek, it was clear why she exited the marriage almost immediately.
Redditor: Do you believe that production picks the couples instead of the experts? For drama instead of for actual relationship?
MAFSFan: Yes I do. I think some they pick for legitimate matches, and then some for train wreck drama.
Redditor: Did Chris attend the reunion show?
MAFSFan: Yes, part of it.
Redditor: How do you find out who stays married or gets divorced?
MAFSFan: At this point…people just come to me with information! Friends, family, Married at First Sight production, or even cast members themselves (typically disguised under fake accounts, but so obvious that it is the person). I usually try to make sure I corroborate the information with at least two people before sharing with the fans.
Redditor: From some of your spoilers, I see that some of the weddings are dispersed over the course of a few days. From the show’s perspective, we don’t see what couples do (the ones who have gotten married first) in the meantime, while the other couples are getting married after them. What do they do during the empty space (besides for meeting with the in-laws for brunch), between getting married and going on the honeymoon that is not filmed?
MAFSFan: Yes, usually the weddings are held over 2-3 days. I’m not sure how it has worked for all seasons, but I believe for the DC season, I was told that the brides and grooms were separated in different hotel rooms after the weddings/wedding night (brides all together, grooms all together) until they left for the honeymoon. I am pretty sure it’s because they don’t want to miss out on filming any interaction between the couples.
Redditor: Has a contestant themselves ever given you a spoiler?
MAFSFan: Yes.
Redditor: Spill the tea! Chris and Paige are paid actors brought on to the show just to create drama – right?? He can’t possibly be a legitimate participant who made it through the vetting process.
MAFSFan: Sometimes I really wonder about this too, but I just can’t fathom putting your entire reputation on the line for a reality tv show. However, the experts insist that he basically fooled them all.
Redditor: My friend has filled out the basic info for the new Boston season. Just wondering if you’ve heard any details on what’s going on with that process.
MAFSFan: I haven’t heard too much. They are still in the recruiting process. I did hear they gave a press release to a government agency to recuit people, which I thought was super bizarre. It sounds like the final interviews with experts/production will take place in June and weddings will be near the end of July or beginning of August.
Redditor: If you could make one change to the show, what would it be?
MAFSFan: Go back to the couples having separate honeymoons and living in their own separate apartment building/houses.
Hope you got some Married at First Sight production spoilers out of this! Make sure to read the full Reddit thread if you want to see all that MAFSFan had to say about the show. If you’re a big fan, take comfort in knowing that it was renewed for at least four more seasons. The next season will be in Houston, then Boston, and the last two are TBD!
